As we head into the fall season at Historic Webster Village, our gardens are still beautiful and there’s lots of green grass and many lovely trees on our grounds. We hosted our annual membership picnic on the grounds on August 25. Masks were worn and social distancing observed while we ate grilled hot dogs and Klondike bars together. It was an enjoyable way to conduct a bit of business.
A lot is happening in our buildings. Work is underway to restore the Wheeler Wheelwright and Blacksmith Shop, and we are very excited about having the building be safer for our events and protection for the displays inside. Podunk School and the Old Town Hall will have encapsulated crawl spaces with commercial dehumidifiers installed to prevent humidity/water damage. The Kleinschmidt General Store also will have a new commercial dehumidifier installed to protect our Historic Webster Archives. Dieterle’s Corncrib is having work done to prevent birds from getting inside. Crossroads Community Center awaits a time when people once again will rent the space for their special party, shower, class, or other event.
Our Historic Webster Village is a great place to wander, contemplate, and plan for what is to come while enjoying reminders of our historic roots. Please keep us in mind for your parties and events as life returns to some kind of normal. Meanwhile, stay safe and healthy.
