5 Simple Things We Can All Do To Prevent Elder Abuse Talk

June 29 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month and WTHS is hosting a free, one-hour talk by Catholic Charities Washtenaw County about Elder Abuse Prevention. Since 2019, Catholic Charities Washtenaw County has provided an elder abuse prevention training to help build a safer, more aging-friendly community.

This presentation covers:
– Types and examples of abuse.
– Common risk factors.
– Where to find resources.
– Simple steps we can all take to protect vulnerable older adults.

Elder abuse is more common than many people realize. Research shows that:
• 1 in 6 older adults experiences abuse at some point in their lifetime.
• It is estimated that only 1 in 24 cases are ever reported.
• Elder abuse occurs in every community, regardless of income, background, or neighborhood.
